    Cheap FREE Movies

    2012 - 05.31

Seems a little strange to talk about “cheap” free movies, but that’s actually what’s going on in June (at least at SilverCity Coquitlam and Metropolis).  If you collect SCENE Points, then you probably know that it takes 1,000 points to get a free movie ticket (at least usually), well for June it’s only going to take 500 points.  So you can get twice as many free movies, just saying.

    Oldies But Goddies at Gog.com

    2012 - 05.30

I’ve been to gog.com before, but not in a while, and I think every time I discover it I try to forget about it because I see how much money and time I could spend there, or on their products.  But talking about Space Quest 7 got me thinking about these older games again, and they have some real gems, and they are priced for the most part at $5.99 or $9.99 USD.  In most cases the games will run on Windows 7 (at least of the ones I looked at), but it tells you right on the site what OSes they work on, but typically there’s more variety and support than the original version of the game, and if not, it’s still cheaper than the original release price.  Here’s some examples of some gems on the site:

There are more, but those are some of my favourites, there’s many games on the site that either I never got around to finishing, or I didn’t get a chance to play the first time around.  Definitely worth taking a look.

    Awake

    2012 - 05.29

This is one of those shows which has been cancelled, we watched the last two episodes last week.  Although the final episode left some stuff open, it worked well as a concluding episode.

What I actually liked best about the show is although it was weird and had some sort of paranormal aspect to it, it was not essential that you understand that paranormal aspect.  Once the premise was introduced it was used effectively, but wasn’t really explored through the normal course of an episode (e.g. most characters in the show were completely unaware of any supernatural elements in the series).

Another interesting aspect is that the show creator answered some questions about where the show would have gone in a Season 2 and potentially beyond.  It’s also one of the few shows where I would be really curious to actually hear directors commentary…

    Wisdom Teeth: Food Suggestions?

    2012 - 05.28

Meant to ask about this in the last post, but I’m also looking for suggestions or recommendations for liquid food and semi-solid food which are part of the post-removal diet for a few days at least.

    Still all wisdom-y

    2012 - 05.28

Turns out I was a little premature in announcing the removal of my 3 wisdoms, today was merely a consultation.  So I get to stay all wisdom-y until next Tuesday (June 5th).

The consultation was interesting, perhaps not worth the $90 fee, but interesting still.  I get three options for the surgery:

    1. Go to sleep
    2. “Twilight”
    3. Stay awake

Apparently it’s a personal choice, which is interesting, and I suppose it should be, but it’s hard to know what is the best decision for yourself.  I suspect most of us aren’t able to make this through some previous personal experience (at least I assume that it’s pretty rare that wisdom teeth respawn like Orcs in a dungeon), so really how equipped are we to make the call?

Being awake seems to have the most advantages generally, no pre-eating restrictions, no driving restrictions, etc… with the downside that you need to actual be awake while it’s happening.

Twilight is sort of a middle ground where you’re sedated but not put out.

Being put to sleep requires that someone drive you to and from the appointment, and there’s various eating and drinking restrictions before hand.

So anyone out there who would care to offer an opinion from their personal experience?  Anyone who stayed awake and didn’t regret it?

    #30dayhomies

    2012 - 05.27

I know it seems like it’s just a random hashtag, but it has a purpose.  Kristen Bell – who we fell in love with as Veronica Mars and further enjoyed as Jeannie in House of Lies and other roles in between – is trying to help motivate her Twitter followers to try to do 30 workouts in 30 days, where everything except golf counts as a workout.

So it’s just one of those random motivational challenges.  We both started on Friday, although because Karin had Zumba at school on Thursday she’s actually a day ahead of me.

Anyway, if anyone else wants to join the challenge you’re welcome to.  As noted above it’s not supposed to be difficult necessarily it’s just about consciously doing some sort of workout every day for 30 days.  It’s all about the good habits.

    Wish us luck.

    Space Quest 7?

    2012 - 05.26

    Found this yesterday on Kickstarter:
Two Guys SpaceVenture – by the creators of Space Quest

Basically it’s a potential game by the creators of the Space Quest series, and it’s going to be an adventure game. I very much miss those types of games!

They’ve got 16 days left to try to raise their $500,000 goal, but they’ve got $233,381 committed by 4,487 people so far.

Hope they make it because I’d like to see more of those types of games…

    Wisdom-less soon…

    2012 - 05.25

Went to the dentist yesterday, and everything was good.  So instead of resting on their laurels they decided that it was time to send me to get my wisdom teeth removed.  I’ve got 3 left, so first thing Monday morning they’ll be yanking my brain out through my mouth because it’s all connected to my teeth, or something like that.

    Disposable Clothing on the way?

    2012 - 05.24

I was reading this article today about the fees that some airlines are charging for checked bags, or in some cases carry-ons.

It’s not like I’m a frequent flyer or anything, but as these fees continue to rise it does open up some other possibilities.  It’s not uncommon in some science fiction stories to feature disposable clothing, or paper clothing.

As far as I know no one is currently serving this market, or otherwise renting clothing or anything like that.  Now the baggage fees aren’t probably quite to the point that people would seriously consider it, but still it looks as though we might get there sooner rather than later.

Might serve as writing prompt for someone who’s writing something in a near future era…

    More Cancellations: A&E

    2012 - 05.23

I remember back when A&E used to be cool, or at least I used to think it was, with a selection of good old shows, biographies and comedy.  In recent years they’ve lost their way in my opinion, and only rarely have shows which are of any interest to me.

One of those shows that we watched was Breakout Kings, which has been cancelled after 2 years.  Which is too bad, as it was definitely one of the better shows they had.

Also cancelled: Dog the bounty hunter… not something I care about, but Karin would watch it occasionally.

On the bright side the third season of The Glades will be starting in a couple of weeks…
